The Definition of a True Friend

A good friend of mine completely blew me away today. I went into our conversation concerned that after hearing what I had to share that he may no longer want to have anything to do with me. Even though uncomfortable and scary, I knew that I had to speak with him because I believe that true friendships are built on honesty. Rather than being…

Episode 2: “I Draw Stuff”

https://vimeo.com/43226858 Moments after finishing our interview with Ben Lack for episode 1, the "6 Months" crew met Reese Kolar, an incredible artist, engineering student, and human being. Untold Stories

My favorite part of travel is hearing people's stories. You just never know who someone is until you learn more about their life. On a trip not so long ago, I sat next to a woman who was on a plane to New York for a funeral. Her best friend from childhood's grandfather had just passed away, and she was going home for the first time in years. On the surface, it would have seemed that this woman and I had nothing in common. I'm not even sure how we started talking, but over the course of our 2-hour flight, I learned about her life, her family, and most importantly, the recent death of her infant son. She shared with me…

Episode 3: A Home for Music

https://vimeo.com/45029461 Music is powerful. It is one of humanity's most compelling ways to bring people together. Music has the ability to open hearts, spring inspiration, and dissolve borders. I hope you'll enjoy this episode dedicated to something that has brought so much beauty to the world. Many thanks to Jenny Kerr and her partner, Phil Milner, from the Jenny Kerr…

Episode 4: A Different Man

https://vimeo.com/46735935 Dwayne Howard is one of the most incredible people I've ever met. Much of his life's journey has not been easy, but he chooses to see the beauty in life. He's an inspiration to me, to his customers, his family, friends, and to those who are or who have struggled with a difficult past. Dwayne reminds us that it's…

Episode 6: Mary T.

https://vimeo.com/50573350 Mary T. Boone lived to be 100. She ate ice cream every day of her life (except for Advent and Lent), went on a 19-day bus tour across the States in her 70's, and learned how to drive at age 59. She was an incredible woman who had a profound impact in the lives of those who knew and…

Express Train to Nowhere

I had a "New in NY" moment today. In an effort to get home after a networking meeting, I hopped on the first train I saw. Everyone else was rushing to make it before the doors closed, so I assumed I needed to be on that train. Then I noticed the train was going fast--too fast. We passed by stop after stop, and at first,…
