Make It Your Best Year Yet!

On New Year’s Day, I wrote on someone’s Facebook wall: “I wish you the very best this year; I know that this is going to be a great year for all of us.” The person replied, “I hope so…”

I was struck by the passivity of this response, as if unseen forces completely dictated this person’s future and he had no control over what the new year would bring. All he could do was hope.

Hope is one of the most valuable and powerful emotions in the human psyche, but it’s transformative if we turn our hope of achieving our dreams into action. Otherwise, we consistently sit in the passenger seat hoping someone else will take the wheel.

Here are 3 actions you can take today to make this year your best:

  • Get Clear on Your Vision. What do you want to create? What is in your heart? What’s the #1 item on your bucket list?
  • Buy a new wall calendar where you can mark an “x” every day with an action you take towards your dream, no matter how big or small
  • Set Yourself Up for Success: if your goal this year is to run more, book a 10K race a few months out, so that you are required to train and keep in shape. See the finish line as a celebration of your goal. Or join us in the “6 Month” experiment where hundreds of people are taking 6 months to really go for their dreams!
How excited am I for you to live your dreams in 2014? This excited!

How excited am I for you to live your dreams? This excited!

It takes courage to take complete responsibility for your life. It can be scary. Our decisions are ours and we’re responsible for how they turn out. What if we make a mistake? What if it doesn’t work out? What if we fail? It can be easy to get caught up in all the “what if’s” so much so that we stay where we are, hoping things will change, only to find they don’t.

That’s the beauty and thrill of life. I can pretty much guarantee that you will make mistakes. I have made countless ones. I’ve literally fallen on my face (quite recently actually), been publicly humiliated for speaking my truth (also recent), and accidentally ate pig’s penis (not recent). But for all the mistakes I’ve made, I’ve succeeded in bringing even more dreams to life because I didn’t give up and when my liaison in China told me I was eating pig’s penis, I just replied, “It’s chewy!”

We all have a choice and an opportunity to create our destiny. We all have greatness within us and limitless potential. And we all deserve a life we love, but it’s up to us to create it.

The good news is no one does it alone. We are in this together! Together we can support one another, rally each other, and help each other to truly live!
