Remember that awesome Diana Ross song from 1980, "I'm Coming Out?" I distinctly remember 70's Disco music making a consistent appearance in my early childhood--that and Barry White. Looks like my parents were groovin' clear into the 80's! The lyrics go a little something like this: There's a new...
Have you seen the life rings on a Redwood or Sequoia tree? Each small line represents a year in that tree's very long life. Humans carry marks of their own lives too--wrinkles, tattoos, freckles, scars, piercings, etc. We also carry those younger parts of ourselves inside us. With every year or...
First off, I want to thank everyone for their thoughtful, kind, and wise comments on my initial post, Writing Your Life. One of the many things I've learned and gained from this ongoing experiment in living is to be open and vulnerable (see The V Word) with others. I'm deeply grateful to everyone...
I've written my first song for the banjo! I hesitate in saying I'm in the process of 'perfecting' it because in my experience, the quest for perfection often belies creativity. Instead, I'll say it's evolving. "Eliza" will make its debut at an open mic sometime in August, and I have plans to...
When was the last time you did exactly what you felt like doing? Not what you "should" do, not what you kind of wanted to do, exactly what you wanted--no compromises. How many times a day do we tell ourselves, "not today" or "one day?" Photo by Tian Jiang I woke up about a month ago and...
"Courage is ...to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart." -Dr. Brené Brown's lecture I've tried to write this post several times in the past month. It started with a breakup. It took a detour with an empowering video I watched today on Youtube that essentially says the...
My grandmother turns 100 next week. I've had the privilege to know her a quarter of her life. When I was born, I had an apgar score of 1 (10 is a perfectly healthy baby and 0 is a dead one). Needless to say, my parents were stressed. My grandmother and the rest of the family drove down...
I believe in yuan fen (Chinese word for fate). I read my horoscope occasionally. I pay attention to the cycles of the moon. My thought is if the moon controls tides, it affects people too. Thousands of years of studying and observing the stars and planets has to mean something. Many cultures...
The most courageous act you will ever commit is to simply be yourself. I rarely speak in absolutes, but after living (almost) 27 years and having a variety of experiences, ranging from the darkest nights of my soul to moments of ecstasy, I can confidently say it takes sheer courage to be all of...

Welcome! Almost three years ago, I was asked a single question that changed my life,
“What would you do if you had 6 months to live?”
No one knows when our time will come, so why wait? We can enjoy life now. We can pursue our dreams. We can LIVE for the present while also planning for the future. My vision is to create a community of people who support and inspire each other in choosing meaningful and authentic lives. Together we can make a difference. Life is waiting.
