Vision + People = Dreams Come True

By June 27, 2013October 28th, 2015Gratitude

When speaking with friends and reflecting on my own experiences, there are 3 main reasons BIG dreams come true:

  1. Be Clear on Your Dreams
  2. Persistence–Don’t give up!

and by far, the most important:

3. People, people, people

As Laura Watts talks about in her recent guest post, The Power of Connecting, our connection with people makes an incredible impact in the quality of lives we lead. There is no way I would’ve been able to sail in Mexico if it weren’t for Don who I met through my friend, Kyle, who I met through Tim, who I met through Raffi, who I met through Marvin, who…you see my point. All of my big dreams have been possible as a direct result of a combination of people.

Everything in our lives, especially now is directly related to our connections with one another. One of the reasons I have such faith and a deep love for humanity is because I’ve seen humanity at its best countless times in my life. I’ve seen people go out of their way to help someone in need. I’ve had numerous people send an introduction email or tweet to connect me with a job, important person, or opportunity. My doctor in Panama was a complete stranger, but he went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable, knowing I was in another country and that emergency surgery is frightening, no matter where you are.

I’m sure you’ve done incredible things for people too. I know that there have been wonderful people in your life who have opened doors for you as true leaders do (see Bill Treasurer’s guest post). There have been people who have helped you in a time of need and who have taken the time to see you, nurture you, and love you for who you are.

I would love to hear about your stories of how people or one person helped make one of your BIG dreams comes true.

After you take a moment to post in the comments, thank someone right now via email, tweet, Facebook post, or owl (been watching a lot of Harry Potter lately) who has helped a BIG dream of yours come true. And my invitation to you before the day’s out, is to help someone with their dream. If there’s not an email or introduction you can send, take a look at Kickstarter.

I’m going to send some emails right now and will be online with the fabulous Arianna Merritt and Kristen Lajeunesse later tonight June 27, 2013 7pm EST to discuss more about making dreams come true. Keep an eye on the Twitter feed for the Google Air link!

Happy dreaming & connecting!

Thanks for this post – yes it is vision and people!
It’s also a humble attitude and being true to yourself and not “using” people.
This is how it worked for my upcoming novel Heart Bones.
Heart Bones is based on my husband’s life. However, although eventful, his real life story just didn’t have enough tension. I was stuck for almost 5 years until I read Marti Leimbach’s wonderful novel The Man from Saigon, about an American journalist and her ambivalent relationship with an undercover Viet Cong spy. The book so moved me I wrote her a note of appreciation. Shortly after that, I figured out how to use elements of her story in my novel. When the book was over I wrote simply to thank her and ask if I could send her a copy! She wrote back offering to help publicize it in the UK where she lives.
It’s the universe and simply people to people connection on a heart level.

Excellent points, Audrey! You’re absolutely right. It’s all about the Heart and connecting through it and being appreciative of people and their value in our lives. I love your story about Heart Bones! I’m currently going on my own adventure looking for publishers for my 1st book, Heart Language, and it always excites me to hear stories like this. Your book sounds fantastic–can’t wait to read it! How do I get a copy? 🙂

Jacqueline, sign up for updates of Heart Bones and you’ll get a free review copy and a link to the Amazon site when it’s ready.
I’d love to hear more about Heart Language. If you need more beta readers I’ll be happy to help too. Just give me a good one month’s notice.

wow u amaze me really, what an inspiration u are to me and to us all, where have u been all my life? wished i’ve come to know u in blogosphere long before i became a blogger. you are an infinite dreamer and i like the way u think on how your world should shape up the way you wanted to see yourself in the future, coming out so alive, full of adventure and beaming life to the brim.
I wish that i have YOUR COURAGE and OPTIMISM, BRAVING to meet the WORLD head on and finding one’s self in the midst of all these chaos, sort of organized confusion. On top of it all you have come out alive and a huge success.
if given a chance, i’d like to paint your cabin in the woods and give that painting to you as a symbol of your dreams come true. i hope to meet you someday soon.

THANK YOU so much for your comment! I got tears in my eyes as I read it. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read the blog and I’m thrilled that it’s been such an inspiration to you. That was my goal when I originally started–I hoped that my experiences and this life experiment that has grown into more than I ever could’ve imagined would touch people’s lives, so to read your comment absolutely MAKES MY DAY!!! Are you a painter? What is your BIG dream? If anything my audacious life has taught me thus far, it’s that there’s always a way, and PEOPLE make the difference. Love and blessings to you! <3
