Yay! My friend and I have successfully completed our 21-day experiment of eating extremely healthy. It was at times downright difficult, even in San Francisco, but it was worthwhile. Last Sunday, we ate our final meal and discussed some of the challenges and rewards of the journey while munching on my all-time favorite, Persian food.
Rewards
- I didn’t get my 6-pack, but I did lose a little weight and look trimmer, especially in the waist.
- My skin cleared up, and by the end, I was wearing no foundation.
- I do feel better, healthier, and lighter
- I’m much more conscious about what I eat
- I surprised myself with my cooking abilities
- Overall, I saved money
- Better digestion and no bloating
Challenges
- It’s more difficult to find foods you can eat
- I was hungry for a good part of the 21 days
- At times, I felt it took the joy out of eating
- It requires more preparation and planning
Moving Forward
I’m glad we tried this life experiment. It’s shown me how often I reach for food I don’t even want, how often I have a second beer at a social gathering, even though I don’t need one, and has given me a deeper appreciation for the foods I do love.
The ultimate goal is to be healthy, whatever that looks like for you.
I still love my fish and chips at Magnolia, my kimchee burritos, and my Guinness-flavored ice cream, but I will be more conscious about what I put in my body moving forward.
If you don’t love it or it doesn’t nourish you, why put it in your mouth?
